Wine tasting
You will love travelling along the
wine road with its many vineyards and wine tasting opportunities.
Some wine producers are now making a
range of organic wines. Amberg in Epfig is one of them – the organic range has a ladybird on
the label - they make nice sparkling wine (called Cremant d'Alsace). You can
mix it with Crème de Cassis (blackcurrant liquor) to make a kir – very good for an
aperitive (pre-dinner drink).
Mittelbergheim
The
wine road is only a few minutes drive away from the house and lends itself to
great wine tasting stops at the wine cellars along to way to sample some of the
excellent local wines. Try the “vendanges
tardives” version of the different variety of grapes (grapes collected later on
in the season).

From Villé to
Marckolsheim, the valley follows the old Salt Road, which went from Lorraine
into Germany. The way out of the Val de Villé, opens onto the vineyards of Alsace. Many
pretty wine growing villages are interesting stopping places. The route
continues towards Sélestat,
the city of the humanists. The town has some remarkable sites the Humanist
Library, but also the Sainte-Foy church, the Saint-Jean commander's residence,
the witches' Tower and the Ebersmunster residence.
